Funded Grants Round 4 September 2011
Parkfield primary School, "Please slow down, consider our kids" Wheelie bin sticker initiative - $1,350.00
This proposal seeks funding for "please slow down, consider our kids" stickers to be placed on wheelie bins in the community associated with Parkfield primary School in Australia. The project addresses "Safe Speeds" and "safe road use" two of the four cornerstones of the Towards Zero road safety strategy. The school has a pro-active road safety committee and is employing a wide variety of strategies to promote road safety both within the school and in the wider school community. we are currently working in conjunction with the RoadWise officer, Main Roads and the Shire of Harvey to make the roads around our school safer for pedestrians and traffic. The school has a scope and sequence curriculum document for all classes K-7 which is currently supported by the principal and used by all staff. This wheelie bin sticker initiative will also help to encourage local drivers to slow down thereby supporting the road safety lessons that the children are learning in the classrooms. In addition, Parkfield primary school will augment the bin sticker initiative by drawing attention to the need for drivers to lower speeds and be aware of children travelling and playing in the locality, through articles in the school newsletter and local community newspapers.
