Shire of Wagin,  Wagin/Dumbelyung Shires Speed Alert Monitor Trailer - $18,528.00
The Shires of Wagin and Dumbleyung seed funding to purchase a Speed Alert Monitor Trailer. This project has been developed in collaboration with the Wagin and Dumbleyung Local Emergency Management Committees, including the local Poilce, with a view of targeting known problems trhough the Town sites of Wagin, Dumbleyung and Kukerin, the Great Southern and Goldfields highways and shire roads. The adjacent Shire of Dumbleyung, does not ahve access to a speed trailer and will co-ordinate with wagin to share the trailer for local projects. The speed trialer will be a useful assed during known peak times of heavy haulage to alert drivers in regards to speed, fatigue and the consequences of the combination of the two. It will be used adjacent to roadworks to alert drivers of their speed and their need to slow down in these works areas. Increased traffic on the Great Southern and Coalfields highway during holiday periods will also benefit by deployment of a SAM trailer with appropraite safety reminders. The trailer is to be housed at the Shire of Wagin and Dumbleyung Works depots and deployment by Shire staff in collaboration with the local police.

Lake Grace RoadWise Committee, Win in the Wheatbelt - Rewarding safe driving this Easter - $8000
The project will be the first step towards a regional coordination committee for the wheatbelt south region. The project will aim to develop links and relationships between state government organisations, local government and the community whilst promoting road safety on a regional platform. Using this building block to promote the group. The Project will help all parties to form the committee, work together in road safety and build relationships to targeting fatigue and rewarding safe road use. Over the twelve months of the project the Easter campaign will help launch the Wheatbelt South Road Safety Coordination Committee (WSRSCC) and will be a crucial step in achieving the long term goals of the project. Blessing of the Roads ceremonies will be used to promote the coordination committee and the Easter Road Safety Project in the region.  There will be a four tiered approach in the project to address road safety on multiple fronts and multiple settings. Firstly drivers that are identified by police to be driving safely will be given an entry from with details of the project and the prizes they can win for driving safely. Secondly at blessing of the roads ceremonies and driver reviver sites (over long Weekends) travel mugs and information bags will be distributed to reward drivers for stopping. The travel mugs will be marked with a fatigue message and the community road safety grants logo. There are driver reviver sites at Lake Grace and Williams which cover the two main highways for holiday makers during this time. Thirdly there will be a media campaign with both paid and unpaid media to promote the project and other road safety messages over the period of the project. Finally the project will be supported with the strategic deployment of speed display trailers that are in the region with double demerit messages and speed display messages on main roads in towns. The project will commence with the police competition for safe road use with support from the driver reviver sites at lake grace and Williams. This part of the project will run over the school holidays which include two long weekends. Following this stage of the project there will be an evaluation on the recall of the project and the preliminary promotion of the WSRSCC.  Finally the first meeting of the WSRSCC will follow in the months after the Easter campaign.
