Set behind the family friendly, famous Simmo’s Ice-creamery, in Dunsborough. The aim of the event is to provide an opportunity for locals and tourists to sample some of Western Australia’s finest beer within the renowned wine region, enjoy local fare and entertainment, over two days, commencing Saturday March 12th whilst providing a responsible host environment where patrons and service staff are educated about Drink Driving. It is anticipated that approximately 1000 adults will attend the day and children will be admitted free. The event will run between 11.00am and 6.00pm each day. We are requesting assistance from RoadWise to implement a drink driving campaign as part of the event via:
- The presence of the Cape Naturaliste RoadWise Committee with a breathalyser and safe drink message. Peta Nolan (RoadWise South West ) has indicated that their presence during the 2003 and 2004 Margaret River Wine Festival event has been extremely successful as the group’s most significant promotion within the region for the year.
- Financial assistance to subsidise free water for “skippers” attending the event and to promote RoadWise messages across a broad range of ages through paraphernalia and activities.
- Financial assistance to subsidise and promote the drink driving message and bus shuttle to the event from the town centres of Busselton and Dunsborough.
4. Quairading RoadWise Committee - Don't Drink and Drive at the Quairading B & S Ball - $4,369.00
The Quairading B & S (Bachelor & Spinster’s) Ball is an annual event attracting approximately 1,500 18-30 year old locals and intra state visitors. This event is traditionally known to be an occasion where a copious amount of alcohol is consumed, making the event an appropriate and relevant occasion to target young people about drink driving.
This year’s event will be held in a paddock on private property at Quairading on Saturday March 19th 2005. Organisers have agreed to include a RoadWise drink-driving message on their flyers and invitations, and volunteers will wear T-Shirts embossed with an anti drink-driving message. The gates open at 2pm and historically, there’s always been a queue of cars waiting to gain entry. It’s planned that a crash trailer will be displayed near the entrance and be visible to all who enter. Corflute ‘Belt Up’ signs will also be positioned at the entry/exit point to remind vehicle occupants to put on their seatbelt if they haven’t already done so.
Show bags with educational and promotional material will be given to drivers in the queue. The bags will contain pamphlets, a car air freshener and an inflatable pillow with “Pack a Pillow- Don’t Drink and Drive” message printed on it. A quiz will also be included in the show bag and all completed, submitted entries will go into the draw to win an overnight stay in a discounted rate deluxe suite at the Broadwater Pagoda Hotel in Perth. An Office of Road Safety poster depicting a man waking up alongside a sheep will be displayed in the men’s portable toilets. The posters are designed to represent the idea that alcohol affect people’s perception on and off the road. The humorous, non-threatening approach to drink driving should appeal to the target audience and encourage safe driving practices. It is expected that most people attending the event will stay the night and leave the next morning. All drivers leaving the ball will be breath-tested by police.
