WA Police and Shire of Leonora, Northern Goldfields Speed and Restraints project - $25,380.00
The Shires of Leonora, Laverton and Menzies have combined to form the Northern Goldfields Regional RoadWise Committee to tackle road safety issues common to the three shires. These issues are primarily: Lack of restraint use, speeding, fatigue, and unsafe cars. Menzies, Leonora and Laverton Shires have a proven history of sharing resources and working together. Similarly, the Police who service the region are pro-active, community focused, and prepared to work with the three Shires and their communities to reduce the leven of serious injuries and fatalities on our roads.
This project is to
(a) install consistent signage across the region targeting restraint use;
(b) the establishment of a Child Car Restraint Hire Scheme and
(c) the purchase of a Speed Display trailer.

The restraints aspects of this project will be complemented by;
a) awareness raising competitions and reward for 'doing the right thing' run in conjunction with the Police;
b) education aimed at children and their carers (child car restraints)
c) support through schools via SDERA programs
d) enforcement.

The Speed Display Trailer will be used to alert road users to their speeds; road conditions and driver behaviours. This will be supported by;
a) increased enforcement by Police
b) education and awareness programs.
