Peppermint Grove

The Shire of Peppermint Grove covers an area of 1.5 square kilometres, has 10.6 km of sealed roads, and a population of approximately 1,652 in over 600 residential dwellings.

Meetings

Shire of Peppermint Grove has a Community Safety and Crime Prevention Working Party. The Shire also attends Western Suburbs Community Safety Coordinators meetings and Metro North Road Safety Reference Group meetings.

Meeting Dates

  • The Working Party meets bi-monthly.

  • The W.S.C.S. coordintors meet monthly/bi-monthly.

  • M.N.R.S.R group meet tri-monthly.

Working Party members

The Working party has representation from Shire of Peppermint Grove Council staff, an Elected Member, WA Police, Main Roads WA, RoadWise Program, Neighbourhood Watch and local business.

Projects/Issues:

  • Speed display trailer
    Peppermint Grove’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan – one of the local priorities in the plan is to reduce speeding and travel speeds within the local community through education campaigns, the use of a Speed Alert Mobile display trailer, enforcement and improving public infrastructure and other road engineering practices on local roads.
  • Child car restraints
    The Shire has been working with the RoadWise Program, Road Aware, Town of Cottesloe, Town of Mosman Park and the local library to highlight the proper use of child car restraints with an educational display for parents and a colour-in competition for children.
  • Blow 0.00 and win
    The Shire has also been involved in the Blow 0.00 and Win competition where drivers are breath tested by police and go into the draw to win a prize if they blow 0.00.
  • Road safety around schools
    The Shire has been working closely with local schools utilising Road Safety Around Schools Guidelines to improve road safety in school zones.
  • Care for Yourself and Your Community
    The Shire has sponsored ECU Nursing Students for the last 4 years in the ‘Care for Yourself and Your Community’ campaign to conduct road safety sessions and other safety topics/sessions in local schools, aged care facilities, library and shopping centres within the local community.
  • Intersection safety
    Working with Main Roads WA to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety at intersections along Stirling Highway that have access into Peppermint Grove.
  • The Shire works in partnership with Town of Mosman Park on various road safety projects.
