Projects/Issues
Community Safe Speed Promise
The City, in collaboration with the City of Stirling implemented the 'Community Safe Speed Promise' project. Residents were invited to sign a safe speed promise and commit to driving within the speed limit and be a courteous driver.
School Road Safety Art Competition
The City runs the School Road Safety Art Competition, which raises awareness of road safety issues by asking students to create A3 artworks on specific road safety themes. The competition runs during term three of the school calendar. Students who win are presented with their prizes at an afternoon tea ceremony.
School investigations
The City’s traffic team visits schools to discuss road safety issues with principals and P&C committee members. The most common problems are parking and congestion. The team assesses the situation and provides possible solutions to these problems. Schools are encouraged to form school road safety committees to solve issues, with reference to the RoadWise Program's Guidelines for Road Safety Around Schools.
The City also encourages the use of ‘Challenges and Choices’ curriculum materials. These are produced by the School Drug Education and RoadAware program.
Bin stickers
The City provides “Please Slow Down, Consider Our Kids” bin stickers to place on the side of green Council waste bins. The bin stickers act as a reminder to motorists to slow down.
If you would like a sticker fo your bin, please contact the City of Joondalup.
Speed display trailer
The speed display trailer is a visual tool available to educate drivers about the importance of slowing down.
The speed trailer measures the speed of an approaching vehicle using a radar. The speed limit of the vehicle is displayed on the LED screen for drivers to see. This is usually followed by a message of congratulations to the driver obeying the speed limit or a message reminding the driver to slow down.
The trailer can be used to target certain streets where speeding issues have been identified.
