Bassendean

The Town of Bassendean covers an area of 11 square kilometres, has 97.2 Km of sealed roads, and a population of approximately 14,140 in over 6,000 residential dwellings.

The Reference Group meets every four months.

Committee Membership

The Reference Group has representation from the Town of Bassendean, WA Police and the RoadWise Program.

The intention and purpose of the reference group is to:

  • encourage and promote to all road users the safe use of roads;
  • be aware of existing and potential road safety issues and to address these by developing, implementing and evaluating a appropriate strategies; and
  • engage and foster community involvement in traffic safety matters.

Projects / Activities

  • Road safety around schools
    The Town works with local schools to implement the initiatives contained in the road safety around schools guideines. These guidelines are a comprehensive package of information, tools and advice to assist Local Governments and school communities to identify and address traffic management and road safety issues around schools.
  • Speed display trailer
    The Town uses a speed display trailer that indicates the speed at which drivers are travelling and provides visual feedback, for example, “well done” or “slow down” to help reduce travels speed in the local area.
  • Bin stickers
    The “Please slow down, consider our kids” project has also been implemented across the Town. Stickers are placed on green Council bins, with particular emphasis on areas around schools and high pedestrian areas. The project also involves use of the speed display trailer, community awareness campaigns and local enforcement where required.
  • Fleet safety policy
    The Town has implemented a fleet safety policy focusing on vehicle procurement, stipulating a minimum 3.5 ANCAP safety star rating.
