Getting Involved

‘Road Safety is no accident’ was the theme to World Health Day 2004 and it remains relevant. In order to promote the message of road safety, deliberate action is needed by all sectors of society, including the private individual. So no matter where you are from, or who you are, you too can get involved.

Local Government

Local Governments in Western Australia are responsible for the control and maintenance of more than 126 000 kms of road, which is 72% of the road network, and also where 65% of serious crashes occur. With close links to local communities, Local Governments can provide leadership and foster a partnership approach to address local road safety issues.

To get involved in road safety, contact your RoadWise Regional Road Safety Officer.

Road Safety Agencies

There are many agencies that are road safety stakeholders. WA Police, Department of Health, Office of Road Safety, Main Roads WA, Department of Education and Training, Insurance Commission of WA, Local Government, Royal Automobile Club of WA and Department of Planning and Infrastructure are all member agencies of the Road Safety Council.

Check to see if your agency is involved in road safety activities. Contact your Local Government or RoadWise Regional Road Safety Officer for more information.

Service Clubs and Community Groups

Service Clubs and Community Groups are an important part of any community. Community involvement is fundamental and essential in road safety. The local knowledge and expertise that communities bring to road safety activities help to ensure their success and increase their value.

To be involved contact your club or group executive, Local Government or RoadWise Regional Road Safety Officer.

Individuals

Everyone can make a difference in reducing deaths and serious injuries. Check with your Local Government to see how you can be involved in their road safety activities.
