Projects/Issues
- Driver Reviver
The Esperance RoadWise Committee conducts Driver Reviver stations at the beginning of each school holiday period or long weekend at a purpose built Gazebo, 80km west of Esperance, near Munglinup. The Gazebo was funded through a Community Road Safety Grant in 2008.
The Driver Reviver is well supported with assistance provided by Goldfields Esperance Traffic Management, RoadWise Committee members and community volunteers.
- Roundabout awareness
Esperance has no traffic lights, but a large number of roundabouts. Police and RoadWise committee members conduct regular awareness sessions at roundabouts in the town centre to educate locals and visitors about the correct way to indicate when entering and leaving a roundabout.
Child Car Restraints
Several committee members are trained Child Car Restraint fitters and offer their services free of charge to community members. Child Car restraint fitting stations are also run on a regular basis. Committee members are available to conduct presentations to community groups such as kindergartens and child care centres as required.
School visits
Committee members have a wide range of skills and are available to visit schools to conduct road safety information sessions for teachers and students.
Community activities
The RoadWise Committee conducts displays at many local community events, such as the Esperance Show ( winning Best Indoor Trade Exhibit in 2009), Australia Day Family Day and the Blessing of the Fleet. These displays are a great way of getting the road safety message out to the wider community.
